İlker İşleyen - Contemporary Artist

Art is something like eating. It's a natural part of the life. I need it to survive!

İlker İşleyen is İstanbul based contemporary artist. Born in Tekirdağ, Turkey, in 1980. He developed a passion for the arts in early youth but he couldn't find the courage in himself to continue on this path for a long time.

Moved to İstanbul and graduated from Mimar Sinan University in 2003.

Took drawing and oil-painting lessons from the artist Şafak Eyüboğlu private studio, in 2004-2005.

Experienced the clay in various workshops and studios.

Started to work with clay in Aslı Aydemir art and design studio in 2018.

Since 2019, he has been working in his own studio in İstanbul.

It's fascinated that the ceramics finds a place in every aspect of the life. It could be real, concrete and a functional object in daily life or could be a conceptual artistic element. A glamorous statue in the gallery or the platter that you put your french-toast in your breakfast. Both is in one body.

He describes his standpoint with a few words: "Art is not a way of expression only, it's something like eating, sleeping or loving. It's a natural part of the life. I need it to survive! We all need it! "
